Oxford 9/11 - St Mary's Tower

Posted by
Jules (Drayton, United Kingdom) on 26 February 2012 in Architecture and Portfolio.

The University Church of St Mary the Virgin is the largest of Oxford's parish churches and the centre from which the University of Oxford grew. St Mary’s stands in the physical centre of the old walled City and while a structure probably existed on the site since Anglo-Saxon times, the earliest part of the present building is the Tower (1280 AD) with its profusely decorated spire (1315-25 AD).
