Gates of Haast Bridge

The Gates of Haast Bridge on State Highway 6, forms part of an important link between the east and west coasts. The bridge was built in 1962 and has a 48 metre long single-lane span. Due to an unstable abutment caused by river scour and slip the bridge was extended by installing a single pier and adding 18 metres to the span.
